Comments - Dramatic image of a heated battle at Haicheng during the Sino-Japanese War. In the center, a Japanese soldier thrusts his bayonet into the back of a fleeing enemy, who arches backwards in pain, flinging his arm up, one foot still poised off the ground in mid-step. Other Chinese rush down the embankment at left toward the water below. At right, more Japanese troops hurry forward with bayonets fixed. Pine trees frame the scene overhead, with an ornately detailed building in the background. Nicely detailed with burnishing in the black uniforms and fine bokashi shading in the background. The metallic pigment on the Chinese soldier's uniform has oxidized to a darker tone.
