Series; Thirty-Two Aspects of Women

Undecided: the appearance of a proprietress of the Kaei era, No. 18 - A lovely original Yoshitoshi from his famous series on women. A restaurant or teahouse proprietress purchases budding Japanese pheasant-eye plants for good luck in the New Year. She has the blackened teeth and shaved eyebrows of a married woman, and wears a simple striped outer kimono. Beautifully drawn with exceptional detail in the finely rendered plants. A wonderful image, and a great opportunity to collect one of the greatest woodblock artists of the Meiji era.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Light vertical line near edge, slight ink offsetting at edge. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
