Present-day Genji Viewing Cherry Blossoms in the Third Month, 1865

Comments - Attractive image of Prince Genji and his companions on a verandah in spring, enjoying the blossoming cherry trees. The nobleman grins as he looks down at a party outside a tea stand below, watching the antics of a group on an outing to view the flowers. A crouching man in a black robe wears a mask with a long nose, while another fellow in black waves a wand of bells. A third man carries a shamisen over his shoulder, laughing at a young woman whose kimono is slipping from her shoulder. Genji wears a striking black coat with a crane in flight above splashing waves over a deep blue violet kimono with patterned white insets. The young girl beside him gestures as she chats with a beauty who hides her smile of amusement with her hand. A lovely spring scene, beautifully detailed, with embossing in the white kimono trim and the feathers of the crane.
