Original 19th century Japanese Woodblock Print
Revenge of the Soga Brothers

Comments - Fantastic triptych of the young Soga Brothers sneaking up outside the hunting lodge of their sworn enemy, Suketsune, who murdered their father when they were young children. The youngest brother, Juro, climbs the wooden steps, preparing to draw his sword as a beauty sheltering a lantern under her kimono sleeve looks out the doorway. The older brother, Juro, holds a flaming torch as he looks cautiously over his shoulder, a frown on his face, rain slanting across the sky. An incredible scene of the moments just before the brothers will avenge their father's death. Nicely detailed and shaded, with delicate cloth embossing in the drapery at upper left.
