Battle of Okehazama in Bishu, Owari Province, 1883

Comments - Dramatic depiction of the Battle of Okehazama in 1560 between the forces of Oda Nobunaga and Imagawa Yoshimoto. At left, a general in a horned battle helmet uses his sword to counter a spear thrust at him by an attacker, while another man crouches behind him, peering out from under his shoulder plate. Another warrior has tumbled face first onto the ground in the center, still gripping his spear. Reinforcements rush forward from right, attacking by foot and on horseback. A driving rain slants across the dark night scene, gusts of wind whipping up the banners in the background. A fantastic scene filled with energy and action, with beautiful color and detail in the armor and weapons, and an atmospheric setting. Includes touches of burnishing in the armor and scabbards. A great image.
