Original Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892) Japanese Woodblock Print
Young Dandy Carrying Irises Kakemono, 1866

Comments - Terrific original kakemono or vertical diptych by Yoshitoshi of a young dandy holding a purple iris blossom and several green leaves. The youth smiles happily as he looks over his shoulder, his hair pulled into a sleek topknot. He wears a colorful blue kimono, the long sleeves trimmed with a clematis flower print, tucked into hakama pants. The light green pants feature a design of large, daisy-like blossoms, intricately detailed with veining on the petals. A single sword is tucked at his side, and he wears white tabi socks and zori sandals. A wonderful Edo era subject from early in Yoshitoshi's career.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 27 7/8" x 9 3/8" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. A few small thinning spots and a couple small holes, repaired. Light toning and creasing, slight paper remnants at edges from previous scroll mounting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
