47 Ronin, Act 9: Yuranosuke's Country Retreat in Yamashima

Comments - Dramatic scene from Act 9 of the "Kanadehon Chushingura" showing the lovely young Konami about to be killed by her mother, Tonase. When her daughter was rejected as a bride for Rikiya because a bribe by Konami's father, Honzo, allegedly led to Lord Hangan's death, Tonase vowed to kill herself and her daughter in atonement. She leans forward with a defiant expression, the sword ready in her hands, as Konami kneels in quiet prayer, awaiting the blow. A wandering monk, who is actually Honzo in disguise, arrives in time to hear the argument and goad Rikiya into killing him to save his family's honor. He stands in the snow at the garden gate, a distraught frown on his face as he listens. Nice expressive figures in a handsome setting.
