Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Pulling Pine Shoots

Comments - Attractive scene of beauties on an outing to pull pine shoots, a traditional New Year's custom. In the center, a young woman in a crane print robe bends forward as she tugs on a small tree, pausing to look over her shoulder as her companion gestures at the large red setting sun glowing in the sky. The beauty at right smiles with amusement as she holds her sleeve to her chin. Her kimono is shaded from black to yellow, and bordered with tie-dyed pine branches, tied with an orange and red floral print obi. A handsome design, nicely drawn and detailed.
