Otomi Attacking Yasu the Bat

Comments - Sawamura Tanosuke III as Kirare Otomi and Ichikawa Kuzo III as Yasu the Bat. Dramatic scene from the kabuki play commonly known as "Kirare Otomi" of the scarred beauty Otomi fighting with the blackmailer Yasu the Bat over money they extorted. Otomi had enlisted the help of Yasu to obtain 200 ryo, but she had no plans of sharing the money with him. Instead, she was to give it to her sweetheart so he could recover a valuable sword and regain his honor. She raises a large knife high above her head with a determined expression, pushing aside the well bucket Yasu is using to defend himself. The criminal is nicknamed the Bat because of the bat-shaped tattoo on his face. A great image with large expressive figures set against the deep green foliage beneath the evening sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 29" + margins as shown
