Tokugawa Ieyasu and Oda Nobunaga Meeting a Chinese Nobleman

Comments - Fantastic kabuki scene showing an audience between the allies Tokugawa Ieyasu and Oda Nobunaga and a foreign nobleman. In the center, Ieyasu is dressed for battle, with a beautiful tiger patterned vest over his armor and a horned battle helmet topped with a dragon, a tasseled command baton in his hand. The Chinese nobleman sits soberly at left, frowning as he holds a red fan in one hand. His exotic robes feature a dragon and a phoenix on the sleeves, trimmed with rows of colorful ruffles, and he wears an elaborate headdress tied under his beard with a purple cord. At right, Nobunaga appears angry, his eyes wide and lips tightly closed in a frown. He wears a purple shoulder protector with red dragon medallions over his armor, his hair pulled back into a neat topknot. A fantastic design with the large figures set against a dark night background framed with red drapery. The actor in the center is Ichikawa Danjuro, while the actor at right is Nakamura Shikan. Beautifully detailed with vibrant color and touches of embossing. A striking design.
