Hahakigi, Chapter 2

Series; Figures in Edo Purple

Hahakigi, Chapter 2 - Charming image of Prince Genji relaxing in a garden pavilion, awaiting a visit from a beauty. He plays a flute as the young woman pauses outside the door, smiling back over her shoulder at her companions, who hide behind the fence at left. She wears a black kimono bordered with pink blossoms and tiny leaves, tied with a light brown brocade obi. A dipper rests across a stone water basin at left, next to a flowering yamabuki shrub, and panels patterned with cherry blossoms and clouds line the room at right. An attractive design, nicely detailed with burnishing in the black kimono.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 28 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small losses at two corners, slight separation at ends of fold near left edge of right panel. Slight soiling, a couple small stains, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
