Original Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Portrait of Yokozuna Unryu Kyukichi

Comments - Terrific portrait of sumo wrestler Unryu Kyukichi, who achieved the sport's highest rank of yokozuna. He wears a gray and blue checked coat over a brown brocade kimono tied with an orange and yellow print obi. He has two swords tucked at his side, and carries a blue cloth in one hand. His bulky frame fills the page, and his unshaven face is shadowed in gray. A handsome design, nicely colored and detailed. A fine subject for a sumo enthusiast.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 14 5/8" x 9 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Small wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, pink stain at bottom edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
