Original Hokusai (1760 - 1849) Japanese Woodblock Print
Bird, Frog, and Wasp

Comments - Intriguing kacho-e image of a bird perched on the back of a frog, eying a wasp that is flying just below. The frog seems to be oblivious to the bird sitting on it, or perhaps it is a stone statue of a frog. A few leaves and sprays of small yellow blossoms surround the creatures. Wonderfully detailed with stippling to suggest the texture of the frog's skin and fine line work in the bird's feathers. An unusual and rare Hokusai nature subject.

Artist - Hokusai (1760 - 1849)

Image Size - 14" x 9 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight separation at ends of horizontal centerfold, small tear at edge, repaired. Light toning and spotting, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
