Series; Tales of Virtuous Government
Ichimura Uzaemon XIII as Yukanba Kozo Kichisaburo, circa 1852 - Intriguing kabuki scene of Ichimura Uzaemon XIV as the commoner Yukanba Kozo Kichisaburo in the play "Meiyo Jinsei Roku." He sits on the verandah of an abandoned and dilapidated house, drinking a cup of sake and grimacing warily as a ghostly figure appears in the smoke from the campfire near his feet. The shadowy spirit bends toward the commoner, its long hair falling forward and its mouth open in a shriek. Kichisaburo scrambles to move his leg away from the smoke, his eyes focused on the eerie form. He wears a blue plaid kimono with a black collar, tied with a yellow and gray plaid obi, a dotted towel draped over his shoulder. Grass grows up through the floor boards, and chunks of plaster are missing from the cracked walls. A fascinating supernatural design, with a wonderfully detailed and atmospheric setting.
