Beauties on a Moonlit Verandah

Comments - Lovely image of two beauties enjoying the evening air and viewing the moon from a verandah. The woman at right rests one arm atop the railing as she looks up over her shoulder, a folded fan in her hand. Her companion wears a sheer gray kimono with a design of white crosshatches over a red under robe, tied with a black obi that reverses to checks. The verandah overlooks the river, with pine trees and rooftops on the shore below and a few boats on the water beneath the glowing full moon. Most interestingly, the women cast gray shadows on the floor, showing the influence of Western art. An attractive scene.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 18 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Stitching holes at one side of each panel from previous binding, a couple wormholes, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and rubbing, a few crease at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
