Akasaka: Manzai Dancers by Hanabusa Itcho, 1855 - Charming image from a Hiroshige and Toyokuni III collaborative series known as "The Tokaido by Two Brushes." In the foreground, Toyokuni III depicts two manzai dancers, based on an earlier design by Hanabusa Itcho. The fellow at right hops about on one leg, grinning happily and waving a folding fan. His companion crouches behind him, holding a small hand drum on his shoulder. The landscape of Akasaka by Hiroshige shows a few travelers along a lonely road through the fields beneath a full moon. A few pine trees line the route, and a flock of geese can be seen in silhouette against the sky. A beautiful moonlit view, and a handsome print.
