Parade of Firemen, 1860

Comments - Fantastic depiction of a tremendous parade of firemen during a festival. A seemingly endless line of tightly packed firefighters marches along, the men holding their tobiguchi or fire hooks upright and carrying lanterns and large brigade standards called matoi. Bamboo ladders frame the scene at either side, with a crowd in the foreground watching their fellow firemen pass. A terrific image with wonderful detail, and a great subject for a collector interested in Edo era fire fighting.

Artist - Yoshitsuya (1822 - 1866)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few holes, repaired. Slight soiling and creasing, slight rubbing near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
