Goat, circa 1830 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Goat, circa 1830

Series; Twelve Elegant Figures of the East

Goat, circa 1830 - Handsome design from a series pairing beauties with the twelve signs of the zodiac. Here, a woman looks down over her shoulder with a rather dismayed expression, a folding fan in her hand. She wears a tan kimono patterned with small cherry blossoms and larger tie-dyed flowers, a roll of tissues and a purse tucked inside the fold, and tied with a brocade obi with a phoenix on it. Her hair is simply arranged in a large loop with a single hair ornament. The inset at upper left depicts a goat beneath a maple tree. A great design from this rarely seen series.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 5/8" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Tiny loss at top right corner, small wormhole, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
