Atsumori Disguised as a Beauty

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of the young Taira warrior Atsumori disguised as the beauty Kohagi to hide his identity after the defeat of the Taira by the Genji clan. She kneels on the floor of the fan shop where she works, an unhappy expression on her face, holding a folded fan between her hands. She wears a blue and white print kimono trimmed with a red tie-dyed pattern, the long sleeves trailing on the floor beside her. Her hair is pulled back into a smooth bun, adorned with a red lacquer comb, clusters of flowers, and ribbons. A handsome design with a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight separation at ends of vertical fold near left edge. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
