Original Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894) Japanese Woodblock Print
Honorable Imperial Visit, 1880

Comments - Attractive scene of the Meiji Empress and ladies of her court awaiting the arrival of visitors. She stands in a pavilion spread with a red floral carpet and hung with purple draperies featuring the Meiji chrysanthemum crest, holding a folding fan and wearing an ornate headdress. A horse drawn carriage enters through the gates of a stone wall under crossed Japanese flags, with officers in uniform and dignitaries lining the entryway. Irises bloom at the edge of a pond at left and stepping stones lead past a stone lantern. An interesting look at Imperial life, detailed with shading in the sky and vibrant color.

Image Size - 14" x 28 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels. A couple small thinning spots, repaired. Slight creasing and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
