Night Rain at Tachikawa, 1830s

Series; Eight Views of Beauties

Night Rain at Tachikawa, 1830s - Lovely image of a beauty preparing to retire for the evening, pausing with one hand on the edge of a folding screen at left as she looks down, a roll of tissues in her other hand. A kimono already draped over the screen at right suggests that she is joining a companion. She wears a blue checked outer robe over a peach and black checked kimono with red tie-dyed inserts, her green obi loosely wrapped about her waist. A circular inset at right depicts falling rain above tile rooftops and willow trees in Tachikawa. An attractive design, nicely colored and detailed, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/4" x 10 /14"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Wormholes, repaired. Light toning and spotting, slight soiling and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
