Nicho-machi, 1820s - Interesting image of a beauty grooming, carefully trimming her nails with a pair of scissors that has a bell dangling from it. The sleeves of her blue and gray striped, butterfly print kimono are pushed down to the waist, a blue cloth tied around her shoulders. A robe is draped over a shelf at right, and a reversible obi, a pipe case, and a tobacco pouch rest in a heap on the floor nearby. In the rectangular inset at upper left, rooftops and signs of the Nicho-machi theater district can be seen. A charming design from a rarely seen Kunisada beauty series.
