Series: Annual Events for Young Murasaki
The First Month (Mutsuki), 1847 - 1852 - Attractive scene from the story "A False Murasaki's Country Genji," a parody of the beloved "Tale of Genji" which recounts the adventures of Mitsuuji, the Rustic or Country Genji. A matron kneels in the foreground, presenting an offering tray with gifts wrapped in white paper and tied with ribbon atop it. The beauty sitting on a cushion behind her smiles as she looks to the side, dressed in a elegant outer robe patterned with wisteria over a red kimono with a design of bush clover. Coals glow in the brazier on the floor before her, and a folding screen with a scene of cranes in flight provides privacy for the group. Nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono trim.
