Actors in a Genpei Battle

Comments - Interesting kabuki image of actors as warriors in a battle during the Genpei War between the Taira and Minamoto clans. At right, a general sits atop a dappled horse, thrusting his fringed command baton forward. He wears a fine suit of armor over a blue print kimono and a horned battle helmet, a quiver of arrows visible at his back. Retainers stand guard around him, including a woman warrior, while two men wrestle on the ground at left. At top left, two men watch from a castle tower. Nicely detailed.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Small holes in corners, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
