Eastern Genji Viewing Plum Blossoms at Night, 1854

Comments - Lovely scene showing Prince Genji and his companions strolling under a plum tree at night, enjoying the fragrant blossoms. Genji wears a sumptuous coat patterned with herons in flight over an intricately patterned kimono. He smiles at the beauty standing next to him, who is dressed in a beautifully shaded floral robe trimmed with tassels. An elegant lacquered palanquin waits at right. A beautiful design with the delicate white flowers contrasting with the softly shaded night sky. Nice embossed detail on the white kimono trim.
