Prince Genji Paying a Visit, 1860

Comments - Attractive scene of Prince Genji paying a visit to some beauties in their private quarters. He stands at left smiling happily, wearing a blue floral coat over his kimono. In the center, a woman looks up from her flowering arranging, holding a blossoming cherry branch. An ornate vase rests on a low black lacquer stand, and additional flowering branches and a pair of scissors are arranged on a nearby tray. At right, a beauty hangs a scroll of Mt. Fuji in a niche. Shelves beside her holds fine lacquer boxes and a rolled scroll. The verandah overlooks a view of the water, with a stone lantern on the rocky shore. A very attractive image with wonderful color and detail, including embossing on the white kimono trim.
