View of a Kabuki Scene from behind a Stage

Comments - Unusual illustration of beauties on the verandah of a teahouse with a kabuki play taking behind. The actors are seen from behind as they perform the play "Tsumoru Koi Yuki no Seki no To." At right, a kneeling beauty drinks a cup of sake, a bowl of food and a fish set on a lacquer tray nearby. At left, another woman holds a shamisen while the matron behind her rests her arm against the balcony railing. Straw-wrapped barrels of sake are stacked in a display at left. An interesting design, nicely detailed with embossing in the white kimono trim.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 19 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two attached panels, backed with paper. Slight soiling and rubbing, ink (?) marks in right panel. Please see photos for details. Otherwise good.
