Series; Twenty-four Figures of Charming Women

A Pair of Japanese Socks, 1931 - Lovely shin hanga portrait of a beauty sitting on the floor with one knee up as she pulls on a tabi or Japanese sock. She looks down with a dreamy expression, lost in thought. She wears a blue kimono patterned with sparrows in flight, and delicate white cherry blossoms over a red under robe, tied with a black, white, and green obi. Her hair is pulled back into a soft bun, shaded to give it a rounded appearance. A striped robe lies on the floor behind her. Beautifully detailed with fine line work and a lightly embossed line along the side of the nose. This image is illustrated on page 151 of the recent book "The Female Image: 20th century prints of Japanese beauties." A rare and collectible shin hanga beauty subject and a fine choice for the serious collector. We've seen this design offered for more than $1,000 elsewhere.
