Series; Gather Together Pictures
Kuniyoshi's Gather Together Pictures - Terrific design from a clever Kuniyoshi series depicting portraits composed of the interlocking bodies of many small figures. This type of print was called yaso-e or "gather together pictures," and consisted of a large image composed of several smaller images. Each is accompanied by a humorous text. These unusual subjects show Kuniyoshi's wonderful creativity and sense of humor, and are highly desired by collectors. A great example of the artist's comic work.
At First Glance He Looks Fierce, but He Is Really a Kind Person - Great image of an angry looking man, grimacing with his mouth open. Tiny contorted figures form his face and extended hand, with a black figure holding a club representing a topknot on his head. A fascinating subject, rarely seen in reprint.
