Procession of Beauties at Kiyomizu

Comments - Beautiful five-panel print depicting a procession of beauties at Kiyomizu. A princess rides in an elaborate enclosed palanquin in the center, smiling shyly with her sleeve to her chin. Women in matching blue and white kimono carry the poles of the conveyance, while another beauty holds a large umbrella over it. Several women shoulder chests marked with the same family crest, while two young samurai lead the way and two footmen bring up the rare. A stone staircase leads up the grassy slope at right towards the temple building above. At left, visitors stroll about the grounds around another building. A lovely spring image with colorful blossoming cherry trees dotting the park. Wonderful color and detail in this rare, five-panel design.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 49"
