Comments - Incredible triptych of the bloody Battle of Shijo Nawate at Kyoto in 1348. In the center, Kusunoki Masatsura battles the forces of Ashikaga Takauji, gripping his sword overhead as blood runs from wounds to his face and upper body. A hail of arrows flies through the night sky as fires light up the sky with orange clouds of smoke. At right two warriors tend to a fallen man, leaning over him solicitously with a dipper of water. A fantastic subject that would make a great addition to a samurai collection. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London has this image in its collection.
