Kiyochika (1847 - 1915) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Summer Moon at Imado

Mariashobu Published Kiyochika Woodblocks - Shortly after WWII in the 1950s, the venerable Mariashobu Publisher of Kyoto produced two series of reprints of Kiyochika's fine Meiji era scenes of Tokyo. Mariashobu's expert carvers and printers created terrific reprints that closely resemble the original 1880s designs. Beautifully printed with excellent detail and fine bokashi shading, these attractive views offer a wonderful look at everyday life in Japan during the Meiji era. They also make attractive framed displays.

Comments - Lovely portrait of a beauty in an interior holding a shamisen, her face illuminated by the soft glow of a lamp of a small stand before her. The light casts a shadow on the wall behind her as she looks up with an eager expression. Outside the window a pale sun glows behind the silhouettes of trees. A charming design, rarely seen in reprint.

Artist - Kiyochika (1847 - 1915)

Image Size - 9 3/8" x 14 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Tape remnant on reverse at top right corner. Faint staining at upper left, tiny tear in margin. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
