Notonokami Noritsune Fighting His Last Fight

Series; Yoshitoshi's Courageous Warriors

Notonokami Noritsune Fighting His Last Fight - Dramatic scene showing Notonokami Noritsune, one of the Taira's great warriors, in the prow of a ship during his last fight at the Battle of Dan-no-Ura in 1185. He rushes forward, one foot balancing on the rail of the ship, reaching out as Minamoto no Yoshitsune sails past in a crouching position during his famous "Eight Boat Leap," remaining just outside his enemy's grasp. Red flames and orange smoke billow from the fire basket hanging over the edge of the ship, white-capped waves rocking the boat up and down. Beautifully detailed with burnishing and soft shading. An incredible, dynamic composition and a great illustration of this legendary episode. A great choice for a samurai enthusiast.
