Anniversary Celebration of Opening Edo City, 1889

Comments - Lively image of a festival procession celebrating the anniversary of the opening of Edo city. Elaborate floats carrying musicians on the lower left and large figures from myth and history on top parade through the streets, with groups of dancers in matching attire walk alongside them. Fireworks explode overhead, releasing a shower of toys, including dolls, miniature umbrellas, and figurines of a tiger and a fish. The Imperial Palace can be seen in the background. Great color and detail in this vibrant image.
