The Syllable He: Mase Chudayu Masaaki

Series; Mirror of the True Loyalty of the Faithful Retainers, Individually, 1857

The Syllable He: Mase Chudayu Masaaki - Intriguing image of Mase Chudayu Masaaki, one of the 47 ronin, watching frogs at night, frowning with his brows furrowed. Holding an umbrella over his shoulder, he crouches on tall wooden geta clogs, holding a lantern above the frogs, two of which are fighting, with one biting the other's neck. Tall grasses and the branches of a willow tree sway gently in the breeze, and a stone statue of a Buddhist deity can be seen at right. A handsome design from the rarely seen Chushingura series.

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Stitching holes on both sides from previous binding, repaired. Slight soiling, a few faint stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
