Series; The Hours of the Yoshiwara

Hour of the Snake, 10 am to 12 noon, circa 1818 - Attractive portrait of a courtesan getting up in the morning from a series illustrating the hourly activities in the Yoshiwara. She looks over her shoulder with a slightly concerned expression as she pulls her blue and white kimono around her. A pile of robes rests on the next to her feet, with two sandals scattered nearby. The inset above shows a group of beauties and two kamuro or child apprentices enjoying a meal with rice, with a large wooden tub of rice resting atop a wheeled cart beside the table. A handsome design from a rarely seen Kunisada beauty series, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Image Size - 14 3/4" x 9 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A few small wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
