Series; The Five Festivals

Fuzuki (July), 1894 - Wonderful illustration of beauties and children celebrating Tanabata, one of Japan's famous Five Festivals. At right, a beauty kneels at a low desk writing poems or wishes on colorful slips of paper to tie to bamboo branches, the traditional decoration for the holiday. A woman sitting beside her holds a squirming boy on her lap, who waves his own branch happily. At left, a girl standing at the verandah railing uses a telescope to look out across the water, where a few fishing boats can be seen. On the opposite shore at far left, the Western-style octagonal Asakusa Ryounkaku Tower rises above low-lying clouds. An attractive design with fine detail and vibrant color. A nice choice for a collector interested in Japan's annual celebrations.
