Sumo Wrestlers Attending a Banquet

Comments - Terrific triptych depicting a group of sumo wrestlers attending a banquet. The men are seated on purple cushions around the room with a meal set out before them, including a large blue and white platter with a fish on it and a pan of food warming on a brazier. They smile and chat, the fellow at far left holding a sake cup and waving his hand. The wrestlers wear kimono with impressive designs, including an enormous lobster, dragons, and a large carp. One man smokes a pipe and another holds a folding fan. A straw-wrapped cask of sake sits at left, and flowers and pines can be seen above a low wall behind the group. Wonderful detail in the figures and setting. A fantastic portrait of sumo wrestlers in their leisure time outside the ring.
