Tales of the Floating World on Eastern Brocade - Dating from 1867 - 1868, this terrific early series by Yoshitoshi illustrates famous tales by a variety of storytellers. The stories are retold by Kanagaki Robun in text blocks that take the form of a book with the pages bent back. Yoshitoshi depicts the violence and drama of these popular narratives with wonderful realism and his characteristic attention to detail. Images from this early series are rarely seen on the market and are great choice for a Yoshitoshi enthusiast or a collector interested in Japanese folklore and legends.

Shima Ukon Tomoyuki and Saito Yohachiro Rikan Battling - Fantastic woodblock of Shima Ukon Tomoyuki and Saito Yohachiro Rikan locked in hand-to-hand combat. One grasps the other around his throat, drawing back his sword to strike. The dramatic scene takes place at night in an encampment, the cloth tent wall sagging below a rugged pine tree behind them. A terrific image with great expressive faces and fine detail in the armor and weapons.
