Mitsuuji Viewing Autumn Leaves, 1865

Series; Eight Views of Edo

Mitsuuji Viewing Autumn Leaves, 1865 - Charming scene of Mitsuuji, the Country Genji, viewing autumn foliage along the shore of a river. He smiles as he looks up, watching a flock of geese descending for the evening. A young girl crouches beside him, smiling and gesturing wit her hand. The beauty at left carries Mitsuuji's sword wrapped in purple silk. At right, a princess fans herself as she chats with the matron at her side. Her kimono is shaded from a rosy color to golden yellow, patterned with oversized peony blossoms. A bridge crosses over the water at right, with a pathway leading to structures atop the hill. A lovely subject, nicely detailed with embossing in the white kimono trim.
