Onoe Matsusuke I and Ichikawa Omezo I at a Teahouse

Comments - Interesting image of the kabuki actors Onoe Matsusuke I and Ichikawa Omezo I at a teahouse. One man relaxes on a bench, his sandal kicked off and his leg tucked up next to him. He chats with the waitress, who looks back over her shoulder at him. She wears a light brown apron over a tie-dyed kimono tied with a red plaid obi, a black lacquer cup stand in her hand. The other actor scowls unhappily as he lifts the edge of his robe, a pipe extending from beneath his sleeve. Nice handling of the black kimono fabric to convey a sense of sheerness. We've never come across this reprint before.

Artist - Shuncho (active circa 1780 - 1795)

Image Size - 15 3/8" x 10 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few small spots, slight creasing near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
