Bando Shuka I as Omote and Nakamura Utaemon IV as Seuki Shinsuke, 1849

Comments - Intriguing scene from the kabuki play "Yoru no tsuru omoi no yukidoke" featuring Bando Shuka I as the beauty Omote and Nakamura Utaemon IV as Seuki Shinsuke. Omote kneels at left with a strange grin, leaning forward with her hands tucked into her sleeves, her kimono and obi trailing on the ground behind her. A sheaf of papers flutters through the air above a rectangular stone basin, while Seuki Shinsuke watches with a surprised smile at right, a boy hiding behind them. They seem to be in a lumberyard at night, as logs and stacks of lumbered are bundled into groups bound with chains and marked with writing. An interesting subject.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 18 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. A few small holes and thinning spots, repaired. Slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
