Kabuki Lion Dance, 1896

Comments - Wonderful kabuki triptych of the actor Ichikawa Danjuro IX performing as a lion dancer, accompanied by his two young daughters as butterflies. He wears a traditional white wig topped with a tiny red lion mask, the long hair flowing over his shoulders. He looks to the side with a pensive expression as he stretches out his kimono sleeves. The girls play hand drums strapped around their necks, their purple and red kimono sleeves emulating butterfly wings. Lovely detail in this attractive print, including faint embossing in the white wig and a shimmering mica background.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 27 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight soiling, faint offsetting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
