Princess Sakura and the Depraved Priest Seigen - Handsome kabuki scene from the story of the depraved priest Seigen, whose desire for the Princess Sakura leads to tragedy. Here the crazed Seigen grabs hold of the beauty's obi with one hand and her kimono with the other as she cowers behind her upraised sleeve. Seigen is unshaven and unkempt with shaggy hair, his blue kimono falling open at the chest. At left, a man waits outside the garden fence, gripping his sword and grimacing as he watches the couple. An interesting scene from this popular tale, nicely detailed with embossing in the white kimono trim and shading in the dark night sky.
