Series; Comparing the Charms of Modern Beauties
Nishiki-e - In 1919, the publisher Fuzoku emaki zuga kankokai produced a series of woodblock reprints of designs by famous ukiyo-e artists which were released in folios. Each volume featured several prints, along with advertisements for products and upcoming kabuki plays in the back. The series was called "Nishiki-e," which literally means "brocade picture," a term referring to multicolored Japanese woodblock prints (see examples of covers below, not included). Includes some subjects rarely seen in reprint. These Taisho era reprints are beautifully printed, with crisp line work and attractive coloring. A great opportunity to purchase a classic ukiyo-e reprint from an interesting format.
Attractive image of three modern beauties in a moment of leisure. The seated woman at left smokes a slender pipe as she chats with her companion. The beauty at right playfully teases a kitten, dangling a tasseled ball above its head, a fan in her other hand. Beautifully drawn with delicate line work and graceful figures. A charming design.
