Priest Shiga Shonin and Royal Carriage

Comments - Beautiful triptych depicting a royal carriage passing through the countryside. A young boy leads the ox pulling the elegantly detailed vehicle as ladies-in-waiting walk alongside, their robes draped over their heads. A court beauty rides inside the cart, and at right, the elderly Priest Shiga Shonin bows respectfully as she passes. Additional courtiers bring of the rear of the procession. Cherry trees covered with delicate pink and white blossoms frame the scene, with a view of the ocean beyond. A lovely design with burnishing in the black lacquer wheels and delicate embossing in the white kimono trim. A very attractive image.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Two vertical folds. Offsetting, very slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
