Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Six Selected Beauties, 1873

Comments - Attractive scene of six beauties enjoying a variety of pastimes. At right, a woman practices the art of ikebana as she creates a flower arrangement. The woman seated below tunes her shamisen, while the beauty in the center plays the koto. She chats with a matron holding a poem slip. The woman at far left rolls up a long sheet of delicately embossed paper, a brush caught between her teeth as she looks down at a lute player. The room opens onto a lovely garden view, with a blossoming plum tree at left and a narrow bridge leading across a pond. A rosy pink glow spreads along the horizon as the sun sets. Nicely colored and detailed, with burnishing in the black kimono and collar, and embossing in the white kimono trim.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small wormholes and holes, small tear at right edge of right panel, repaired. Light offsetting and soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
