Original 20th century Japanese Woodblock Print
Penguins and Japanese Antarctic Expedition

Comments - Terrific illustration of Japanese explorers moving wooden crates in the snow, with red flags dotting the scene and a shovel handle at lower right. This woodblock likely dates from 1956 to 1962, when the Japanese icebreaker Soya made several missions to the Antarctic. A charming, historic design, with an effective composition and bold use of color. Published by Kyoto Hanga-in. Print is mounted to a backing sheet with a printed yellow border.

Artist - 20th century artist (not read)

Image Size - Image 3 3/4" x 6"; backing sheet 5" x 7"

Condition - This painting with excellent color and detail as shown. Mounted to backing sheet at top edge. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
