Magic Fox and Sacred Jewel, 1851

Comments - Terrific kabuki scene showing a warrior holding a shining sacred jewel in his outstretched hand as a nobleman grabs the end of a banner over his shoulder. The warrior grimaces angrily, dressed in a magnificent black robe patterned with dragons and trimmed with fringe over a suit of armor. The nobleman stares back at him with an unhappy expression, an umbrella over his shoulder. At left, a rogue holds a magic white fox by the scruff of its neck, a large knife clenched between his teeth. The beauty kneeling below smiles up at the warrior as she pats the back of her hair. Rays of light radiate from the jewel across the dark night sky. A fantastic subject with wonderful detail and color, and an atmospheric setting in the woods with supernatural red flames dancing about the tall tree trunks and grasses.
