Samurai Lifting a Tree Trunk

A London Collection - This item is from an exceptional group of triptychs recently purchased from a London estate. The collection includes a significant number of rare designs – many that we have never sold or seen offered. The overall condition of the prints is outstanding with clean, bright subjects. There is almost no wear, soiling, or storage offsetting. Look for rare designs by Yoshitoshi, Chikanobu, Gekko and others. Shop the auctions marked “A London Collection” for an opportunity to add some especially rare triptychs to your collection.

Comments - Intriguing scene of a group of warriors atop a rocky peak. The samurai at left grips a tree trunk with both hands as he maneuvers it over a chasm so the group can cross. A general crouches in the center, directing the retainer with his fan. He wears a pale yellow vest over a fine suit of armor, and a horned battle helmet with a tall black peak. His other men wait among the tree trunks behind him, while a guide waves his hand in astonishment at the amazing feat of strength. A great design, beautifully composed, with fine detail in the armor and fine bokashi shading.
